The Sore Lasem Multiway Skirt is a design from Senja Sore's collection, Kasih Putih. This collection tells the story of pure, unconditional love—love that cleanses and renews the soul, as pure as the blooming white ylang-ylang flowers, a symbol of sacred love.
This design comes in one size that can be adjusted and worn three ways.
Material: Hand-drawn batik (batik tulis) from Lasem is renowned for its intricate patterns, vibrant colors, and deep cultural influences. Often called “Batik Lasem,” this style blends Javanese and Chinese artistic elements, making it unique compared to other batik traditions in Indonesia.
Key Features of Lasem Hand-Drawn Batik:
1. Bold Red (Lasem Red / Abang Getih Pithik) – Lasem is famous for its deep, blood-red dye, which was historically difficult to replicate elsewhere. This color reflects Chinese influences and symbolizes prosperity, luck, and strength.
2. Floral & Chinese Motifs – Many Lasem batik designs include motifs like liong (dragons), phoenixes, peonies, and butterflies, inspired by Chinese culture, blended with traditional Javanese batik elements.
3. Tiga Negeri Batik – Lasem was part of the Batik Tiga Negeri tradition, where fabrics were dyed in three different cities (Lasem, Solo, and Pekalongan) to achieve multi-toned batik with exceptional color depth.
4. Fine & Detailed Patterns – Lasem batik is characterized by highly detailed batik tulis techniques, requiring meticulous craftsmanship and months of work to complete a single piece.
5. Coastal Batik Style – Unlike inland batik (such as Yogyakarta or Solo, which uses darker earthy tones), Lasem batik is more vibrant, reflecting its coastal and multicultural influences.
Cultural Significance
Lames batik reflects the historical trade and migration of Chinese communities to Java, making it a symbol of harmonious cultural fusion. It remains highly valued for both its artistic beauty and its deep-rooted heritage in Indonesian batik history.
